Easter Sunday in Cape Town

Michael got up early and kindly drove us back to Cape Town on Easter morning. As we got closer to town, amidst the gorgeous scenery, were miles and miles of townships where millions of South African's poor live.

We headed to St Mary's Cathedral for Easter Mass. The Archbishop of Cape Town presided and we were surprised to see our own "Deacon Mike", an SAS professor who is a Catholic deacon, walking up the aisle to assist with the beautiful service.

We heard that the Cape Town Aquarium was worth visiting--and we agree!
We strolled around Cape Town a bit longer and then boarded the ship, thinking we would leave on schedule Sunday evening. Because of strong winds, we were not allowed to leave the port for 24 hours. We went back to classes on Monday, but how we longed to get off the ship and walk through the waterfront area one more time!

Early Monday evening, we squeezed through the port entrance and headed out into the Indian Ocean and took our final look at Cape Town. When clouds form over Table Mountain, they call it the "table cloth." We sailed into the Atlantic en route along the west coast of Africa towards Ghana.
Here are videos of waterfront street performers, "last" view of the harbor Sunday night, and the tug escorting us out and picking up the pilot on Monday.
