We boarded the MV Explorer in San Diego and last night we sailed to Ensenada with loads of pitching and rolling and general turbulence. Charis and I did not sleep at all. Luckily in the morning we learned that was one of the worst nights in the history of the program--so hopefully we won't experience that again.
On the bright side, the ship is wonderful--two lovely dining rooms, one includes an outdoor deck. A beautiful faculty lounge, all enclosed in glass at the front of the ship on the top deck. The boys enjoyed playing soccer in a netted-in play area on an upper deck. The pool is a small outdoor pool, and the kids seemed more excited by the accompanying snack bar. There is a fitness center that includes a spa for facials, massages, haircuts, etc. Not open yet, but when the students join us on Sunday, we'll have to check that out.
We've had great meals so far--buffet style, with lots of variety--and most important we do not have to fix it or clean it up!
Our rooms are very nice and everything is "hotel-style": they make up the beds and tidy everything up everyday. Laundry goes in a bag and then will magically return to us--for something like $8 pressed or $6 regular.
Once I get through the seasickness--and four days of all-day faculty meetings--I know we will all enjoy this!
