Shanghai!

We arrived in Shanghai this morning and had an onboard briefing from US Embassy Foreign Service Officers. They underscored that Shanghai, China's largest city, is quite safe, although pickpockets are numerous and traffic can be dangerous. They also advised everyone against talking politics or religion and recommended we avoid any sort of conflict. We are docked right in the heart of Shanghai, with "The Bund" (the colonial outpost of the British, French, Americans and others) on one side of the Huangpu River and the modern section of the city, Pudong, with its famous Oriental Pearl Tower, right across from our balcony, where I shot both these photos.
We are now waiting--we're not sure how long--for the immigration process to begin. Each member of the ship community needs to clear this process before anyone can get off the ship. We may be here awhile.

Seas were a bit rough en route from Japan...Valentine's Day seemed to take on a Ninja-Pirate theme for the kids. There were lots of activities including a Valentine's Day song sung by the kids broadcast throughout the ship that was really cute.
We think we'll be called any moment for immigration, so I'll sign off and share more later.
Check out the first Hilo post and second Kobe post for video clips I added. (Hilo: Somoan, Lap, and Hawaiian performances) (Kobe--Japanese performances from our trip to Kyoto.)
